O Christmas Tree

Today was the start of a new family tradition for us: cutting down our own Christmas tree. We always have a real tree every year, but usually we just go to Wilson's, pick one out from the crowded space, pack it in the truck and go home. This year I wanted a little more Christmas spirit, so we went out to Mason Family Farm which is near Kenaston. The kids were very excited--the first thing Blake asked me was "do we get to yell 'TIMBER'? We arrived about 10AM--the weather was beautiful-we still had to dress nice and warm, but it was one of the nicest days we've had in a week. The kids started to trek down the rows of trees and Dale was armed with his manly hand saw. (which they supply, by the way)

Avery checked out a few of the smaller trees, but I was surprised she never said she wanted one. She usually always wants the "cute, baby one"

It didn't take us too long before we found the perfect one for us. Blake helped Dale with the saw and got his wish "TIMBER!"

I started to help the kids drag it back to the truck (mainly because I wanted to be in a picture too!) The kids kept tripping over deep snow banks, so Dale dragged it the rest of the way. They then took this opportunity to play in the snow and make snow angels.

Dale even let Blake drive back to the barn

where we then got a treat of hot chocolate and cookies and a nice picture to finish it off.

We then proceeded home to decorate it to get our final result:

It was such a great day. The kids had a blast and can't wait to do it next year!
